Global Compressors (Eric)

« on: May 11, 2007, 08:04:12 pm »

Thought I'd share this with you all. This was made in the 30's by my Grandfather. He was an inventor and this machine, to my knowledge, is the earliest known bar room, coin operated, poker machine ever made.
I would call it the predecessor to modern video poker machines.

2 players would deposit a nickel and take turns pulling the handle. The wheel would spin and which ever card lined up in the window would be part of your 5 card hand. You then, would line up each knob, which are  card wheels, to the corresponding card in the window.
Who ever had the best hand won.

There were only 5 machines made, one was distroyed in a fire, I have this one and I do not know what happened to the other 3.

Enjoy,

Eric   '<img'>

Way cool, and even cooler knowing it's history is part of your family.
Thanks for sharing Eric

My "Gramps" told me, the round part that houses the wheel, on the original prototype, was made from a womans hat box...about 20" in diameter.
