What sound does it make when the fan is stopped?
Put a rag in the fan blade?
Don't do it too long!

That sounds exactly like a fan blade hitting a metal fan shroud. Stop the fan with a long screwdriver or a rag just be careful not to loose a finger. and see if the noise goes away. If it doesnt then you know it is the compressor.

Okay so I put the rag on the fan and turned the machine on. It made the exact same noise as before so it has to be a compressor. Anyone know what is making this noise inside or have this happen to them?

I have cut open a bad compressor for fun once. I just can't imagine a boken piston and it still run. At least it is 134A so you can easily get it charged. I guess it needs to be replaced. Won't the shipping company that damaged it pay for the problem?

Move the fan blade in and out see how much play you have on both fans. I am with Josh sure sounds like one of the blades is hitting something...

I had a customer bring in a Vendo 81 for restoration one time. We stood it up and discussed buisness for an hour. Before she left I wanted to plug it in to test the condition of the compressor. Sounded like a freight train, she was surprised, we couldn't hear each other talk but the coils were icing up like they were fully charged.
They bought this machine the week prior out of the newspaper. When they arrived it was chilling pop real good, no noise. Either the previous owner turned the thermostat off minutes before she arrived, or that wrist-pin was broken as it laid on it's back for 300 miles.
Eric......can this happen?

In the video, it looks as though the compressor is laid back towards the fan, instead of upright. Is it, or does it just appear that way?
