I recently purchased a 55 Slider for my father, which is now running in his basement.  The machine cools fine, but frost has started to accumulate on the front inside panel.  I had my father turn down the thermostat (it was set to high) and that seems to have helped a bit, but I was wondering what degree of frost is "normal" for these machines?  I would imagine that replacing the seals might help a bit, although the rubber seals seemed in pretty good shape.  Any thoughts/ideas appreciated.

It's normal for a slider to have some frost on the walls & after some time, it may even get a little ice going, but while the compressor is off, it should defrost somewhat, which means you DON"T want any ice on the floor of the pre-cool area below ( to keep the drain hole open, it is OPEN isn't it?) & don't foget a drain pan or you'll have a wet floor.

Yes, you'll keep the frosting to a minimum by making sure the lid gaskets are in good shape, here's a quick trick to find any leaks, put a troble light inside the machine & close the lid, now you can see if the gasket is leaking by how much light is peaking through the lid.

Also don't let the little ones ( or the big ones who act like little ones!) leave the lid open...
