Should the compressor fan run all the time?

I have a LaCrosse Cooler Co. Pepsi Machine, Mod #LCB(1LL)64-8B. I'm not sure how rare it is but I can't find any info. on the Web about it. The compressor fan runs all the time, is this normal? It cools to about 30 degrees but the condenser coils then frost over and will not defrost with out turning the machine off. Any info. would be appreciated.

If by compressor fan you mean the fan next to the compressor,(the condensor fan), no, it should only be running when the compressor is running, and should shut off when the compressor does too. Does your compressor run all the time?

After being distracted by a whinning 4 year old (mine
) I saw that you said that the machine is too cold, and the coils are frosting/icing over, that means your thermostat is probably shot/shorted and is running 24/7/365 or until you unplug the machine. Time to get a new one
'> this would also account for the condensor fan running constantly. later Johnie G

The fan next to the compressor runs constantly. I don't know how to check if the compressor is running. I changed the thermostat two days ago but it did not make any change. The fan inside the cabinet also runs constantly but I believe that is normal.

Mike,
Just a note: If someone has done work to the condensing unit previously, they may have inadvertantly wired the condensor fan with the evaporator fan which does run continuosly or until the cabinet door is opened on some models.
As for knowing if the compressor is running, this is an unoffical tip: place your hand on the compressor itself (careful, may be a little hot) and see if you feel a slight vibration from the unit. If not, turn the thermostat to the coldest position and see if you feel the compressor start...
My overall suggestion is to look into the wiring to make sure it has been wired correcly...

'> Thank You for the replies. It turns out the parts store gave me the wrong thermostat that was rated from 25f to -12f. I put in the right one and so far it's working great.
